Event Info

The 2023 Western National Event will be held on Monday, Nov 13th and Tuesday, Nov 14th near Ritzville, Washington.

• We invite individuals from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, or Montana to register and participate.  Registration is due by Oct 27, 2023.
• The registration fee:
  • Individuals and Additional Assistants = $20

Award will include plaques, the silver belt buckle for the top hand and an array of prizes.

Site Specific Details for 2023:

• Current Rangeland Issue is Wind Energy on Public Lands -More information about the current rangeland issue can found on the Preparation Page
• Five Washington Plants will be added to the Plant Identification list. (Plant List of all 65 plants).
  • Thurber’s Needlegrass (Achnatherum thurberianum)
  • Wax Currant (Ribes cereum)
  • Snowbrush Ceanothus (Ceanothus velutinus)
  • Dalmatian Toadflax (Linaria dalmatica)
  • Yellow Star-thistle (Centaurea solstitialis)
• Changes for 2023:
  • Height Weight Method Utilization Estimate as described in the handbook will be used.
  • Utilization gauges can be purchased from the University of Colorado Bookstore or can be made using the template on page 97 of the Utilization Studies and Residual Measurements handbook.
