Plants

Aside from getting out on the range and learning plants by examining them first-hand, the next best way is to study herbarium specimens. The Consortium of Pacific Northwest Herbaria has made access as easy as a mouse-click! You can view very high quality scans of all the plants on the list for this event.

We’ve made it easy for you–simply scroll down and follow the links to go directly to the image collection for each plant. Click on the image thumbnails to view the high resolution version then zoom in and explore!

  • Plant Links – Download an excel table with links to plant images.
  • Plant Set Order Form – Order a set of 75 herbarium-sized specimen images for your classroom. Prints are 11″ x 17″ full-color images, printed on cardstock and laminated durability (updated 2015). Include plant characteristics (common name, growth form, lifespan, origin, and forage value). Complete the order form and email it to 4range@uidaho.edu to receive your herbarium set. Proceeds go to support the University of Idaho Range Club.
  • Booster Pack Order Form – If you have an Idaho State Rangeland Plant Set, order this booster pack to have a complete set for the Western National Rangeland CDE. This set has 20 herbarium-sized specimen images. Complete the order form and email it to 4range@uidaho.edu to receive your herbarium booster pack set. Proceeds go to support the University of Idaho Range Club.
  • Order a set of full-color 8.5″ x 5.5″ flashcards. Flashcards include multiple color photos on front side, with plant name and characteristics on opposite side. Email your order requests to 4range@uidaho.edu. Available for $60 (includes shipping).
  • Backpack Guide to Idaho Range Plants – Order this beautiful full-color guide which contains many plants included in event.
  • Range Plants of Utah provides an excellent overview of many common range plants.
  • Quizlet – Study the CDE plants on Quizlet. This website allows you to study plant identification sets we’ve made! You can study by flashcards, spelling tests, testing yourself, or even create your own study set.
